![]() About UsWho we areMission Early College High School first participated in the Science Bowl on its first year of existence (2006-2007 school year) with several teams. All teams placed in the top ten, one placing 1st and winning a trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the National Science Bowl. Since then, Mission Early College High School set out on training our students to participate in these competitions with as much knowledge as possible with the goal of sending a team to Washington every year; the Science Bowl Program was born. As a program, we began by drilling members with the questions used at Science Bowl in order to be prepared for the competition at NSMU. This year, we will be further extending our training by using textbook resources, lectures, multimedia, and our expert instructors to guide students in all areas necessary for the competition (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Physics, Mathematics, as well as shared issues in General Science). Our GoalsOur primary goal is to send one of our teams to Washington D.C. every year to participate in the activities of and compete in the National Science Bowl. One of our other goals is towards the community: we would like to provide tools to everyone in the community —educators, students, and parents —to learn and teach others about science. Science-related careers are expected to grow quicker than other occupations and demand for scientists and engineers will increase quickly in these following years. For this reason, we want El Paso's children to be strong in the sciences; we want El Paso's math and science TAKS scores to increase. To accomplish this, we will do our part by helping those in our community. Mission StatementThe Mission Early College High School Science Bowl Program is here to ignite a flame of curiosity in the minds of the children and youth of our community with the goal of sparking an interest in the Sciences. |
